To effectively serve the nonprofit community, listening to their needs, challenges and concerns was NSG’s first step. Soliciting feedback continues to be a hallmark of NSG’s work to continually be responsive to the sector’s needs.

Highlights of NSG’s engagement with the nonprofit sector includes:

  • Asset mapping of the nonprofit sector to better understand the assets and gaps in six key areas including Alignment and Collaboration; Resources; Leadership; Research, Evaluation and Strategic Learning; Vision and Mission; and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

  • The Nonprofit Capacity Building in WNY report (2019) completed based on best practice research, focus groups, surveys and interviews across the nonprofit ecosystem to better understand the strengths and challenges of the sector
  • Initial Community Conversations (2019) to introduce NSG and gain initial feedback
  • Community Feedback sessions including one on COVID-19 to gain insight into the sudden needs of nonprofits as the pandemic spread
